Azeri Village Runner
Azeri village runner from the nineteen twenties with a rich field of both images drawn with different natural colours in fifteen rows of five creating a pleasing visual feast giving a sense of the equal pleasure that the weaver took in making it. Three quite simple borders frame the piece and it was made with an expectation that it would serve a practical domestic purpose.
It may have been made by semi-domicile nomadic tribal groups just before the commercialization of the Caucasian carpet business following the mass movement of Armenian people and the influence of Soviet commercialization.
