Caucasian Georgian
An extremely finely and tightly woven piece that may be identified as Caucasian, possibly with design resembling the Sechour with its St Andrew’s cross. The dealer attributed it to coming from Georgia though he may have meant that it was sourced in Georgia. From the first quarter of the twentieth century it is an example of the weaver’s complete mastery of the craft. The complexity of the multiple borders also display the individuality of occasional irregularity as the blues and browns combine on the natural ivory field.
