Perepedil

A classic Caucasian Perepedil woven onto an ivory field. The repeated rams horn design and the Kufic border found in rugs from Kuba. From the first quarter of the twentieth century its range of colours and motifs delight as it manages to be both extremely busy and calm quite perfectly held in its repeating pattern with colour variation challenging the symmetry. The motifs are elegantly drawn with flowers and plants accompanying fantastic creatures.  The wide border is typical and in this case is distinguished by its multiple layers comprising twelve different lines.
