Afghan Turkoman
A delightful small rug from Afghanistan probably made in the middle of the last century, possibly by refugee communities coming from Soviet controlled neighbouring territories and before the Soviet invasion. Small, 92x128 cm suggesting it was made on a domestic flat loom that had its roots in a nomadic tradition. Wool on wool with high knot density. The complexity of multiple linear border and central linear designs is a study in its own right. Ultimately, it is a weaver who is able to celebrate her own art as she creates a unique piece.
